A documentary maker finds a hidden network that trees used to communicate with each other. A marine biology student's thesis research uncovers a mysterious song from the ocean. Seemingly unrelated events reveal a world hidden on Earth that will forever change the way humanity perceive its existence. Oumuamua celebrates the idea that all livings exist need to communicate – nature's affirmation that we are all inexplicably connected in this world. With original music and sound design by composer-pianist Tze Toh, this project brings together the grandeur of film music and also groundbreaking live collective jazz/carnatic improvisation and soundscape creation. Featuring an international group of performers including Lazar T.Sebastine (Indian violin), Teo Boon Chye (sax), Helena Hulsman (jazz vocals), Izumi Sado (soprano), Roberto Alvarez (flute), Wu Bingling (violin), Akilesh VM (percussion), Miyata Masato (bass), Wendy Phua (e.bass), Loraine Muthiah (piano, synthesizer) and Tze Toh (piano, synthesizer), this is a concert not to be missed! TO ensemble is Singapore's groundbreaking contemporary music group, which performs original music that is a fusion of film score, jazz, Chinese, Indian, European classical music and anime/video game soundtracks.
The group explores dynamic relationships between movement, sound and the visual, often working with film, contemporary dance and multi-disciplinary projects.
Described by The Business Times as “sophisticated and accessible“, the ensemble's debut album Stories from wonderland was selected as one of the top albums of the year for having “helped shape music in 2011”.
Created by award-winning composer-pianist Tze Toh (UK songwriting contest 2011, instrumental category) in *2007, whom The The Straits Times described as “an extraordinary musician whose idiom straddles comfortably between genres of classical, jazz, world and film music” and “possesses an original voice”, the ensemble has performed for the Journey of Youth Olympic Flame 2010, official opening of Singapore's iconic Gardens by the Bay and records for film, and collaborates on contemporary dance, visual projects creating original multi-disciplinary works.
